President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared Sunday, November 2, 2025, a government holiday, creating a rare four-day weekend for public sector employees.
According to the President’s Office, the decision was made as Victory Day, observed on Monday, November 3, is already a national holiday. With Friday, October 31, and Saturday, November 1, being regular weekend days, the declaration effectively grants government staff a continuous break from Friday through Monday.
Chief of Staff Abdulla Fayaz announced the decision in an official circular, stating that the move allows government employees to enjoy an uninterrupted holiday period ahead of the national Victory Day commemorations.
Victory Day marks the defeat of the 1988 coup attempt by foreign mercenaries, a defining moment in Maldivian history that honors national unity and bravery. The extended break is expected to encourage greater public participation in commemorative events across the country.
