President Muizzu calls for national unity: “Our strength lies in standing as one”

By Ahmed Ashraf Published November 3, 2025

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu urged Maldivians to strengthen unity and safeguard national identity during his Victory Day address at the Social Centre this morning. Speaking before national leaders, veterans, and youth service participants, he called on citizens to stand as “a proud, united nation under one faith, one language, and one lineage”.

The President said unity has always been the foundation of Maldivian independence. Recalling the bravery of those who defended the nation on 3 November 1988, he stressed that their courage must continue to inspire citizens today. “Our heroes placed the nation above themselves. That same spirit must live on in every Maldivian heart,” he declared.

Dr Muizzu highlighted that preserving independence in the modern world requires collective effort beyond military strength. “Today’s threats may not come with weapons but through divisions that weaken us from within. We must remain vigilant and united to defend our sovereignty.”

The President reaffirmed that his administration’s policies aim to revive Maldivian nationalism and foster solidarity through initiatives such as the National Service Program, which has already attracted overwhelming youth participation. He concluded with a call for unity grounded in faith, shared history, and national pride, assuring that “together, we will keep our independence eternal”.
