President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering the Maldivian people, declaring that the government’s ultimate goal is to “enrich ordinary citizens.”
Speaking at a ceremony held to officially hand over 206 new development projects to private contractors, President Muizzu announced that these initiatives will directly benefit 123 islands across the nation. Among them are the construction of 825 housing units in 13 islands, a major step towards improving housing accessibility and living standards for Maldivian families.

The President emphasized that these projects represent a new phase of national progress — one that prioritizes local empowerment and equitable development. He noted that upon assuming office, his government inherited an economy “designed to default,” but through determined reforms and responsible management, it has since been put back on a stable and sustainable track.
“These projects are not limited to the construction industry alone; they will create ripple effects across the economy — generating jobs, supporting small businesses, and driving regional growth,” President Muizzu stated.
He assured that there would be no delays in payments to contractors, reflecting the government’s strong partnership with the private sector. “These are projects designed to move quickly and deliver real benefits to the people,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
President Muizzu further underscored that the government will continue to collaborate closely with private enterprises to stimulate economic activity, strengthen local industries, and ensure that prosperity reaches every island community.
“The entire government will work hand-in-hand with the private sector to empower communities, generate income, and create opportunities that strengthen our economy from the ground up,” he said.
The signing of 206 projects across 123 islands marks one of the most extensive nationwide development efforts in recent years — a milestone that aligns with President Muizzu’s vision to decentralize growth, elevate living standards, and build a resilient, people-centered economy.
