A historic political rally unfolded at Malé’s Artificial Beach tonight as thousands of citizens gathered to celebrate two years of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration. Senior PNC officials confirmed that the turnout marked the largest political gathering ever recorded in the Maldives, with supporters filling the entire beachfront and overflowing into surrounding main roads.

Addressing the rally, PNC Spokesperson Heena Waleed delivered a powerful speech outlining what she described as a compassionate and people centred governing style that has shaped the administration’s social reform agenda. She noted that throughout the past two years, the President has consistently listened to public concerns and acted decisively to resolve long standing hardships.
Heena highlighted the expansion of Aasandha support for eyeglasses as a key example. Although free eyeglasses had technically been available since the Madhana scheme period, citizens still paid significant amounts from their own pockets. She said President Muizzu increased the assistance to 2,000 rufiyaa, allowing every citizen to obtain eyeglasses without additional cost.

Turning to healthcare challenges faced by children with thalassemia, Heena described it as one of the most neglected areas in past administrations. She announced that nineteen children have recovered after bone marrow transplants facilitated by the government and ten more are currently abroad preparing for the procedure. She said the President decided to provide a dedicated allowance for every thalassemia child starting next January after personally visiting the Thalassemia Center to assess concerns raised by families.
Heena also pointed to the government’s work on fertility services, describing it as a transformative step for couples struggling to start families. Within the first one hundred days, the administration enabled IUI and IVF treatments under Aasandha and established a state of the art fertility center at Dharumavantha Hospital. She added that the Fertility Care Trust Fund has already helped twenty three individuals complete treatment and experience the joy of parenthood.
On women’s health, Heena said the inclusion of endometriosis treatment under Aasandha represents a long overdue recognition of the pain endured by many Maldivian women. She added that such reforms demonstrate the President’s willingness to address issues that had remained ignored for decades.
As the rally continued, the crowd stretched from the surf zone to Alimas Carnival, with supporters waving national and PNC flags while awaiting President Muizzu’s keynote address. Attendees said they gathered to celebrate the administration’s achievements and to hear the President outline the government’s next phase of reforms for the coming three years.
The overwhelming turnout signalled strong public momentum behind the government’s social welfare and health sector initiatives, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated speeches of President Muizzu’s tenure.
