The Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka has issued a severe weather advisory calling on all Maldivian nationals living, studying or travelling in Sri Lanka to take immediate safety precautions as the island nation faces heightened storm conditions.
According to Sri Lankan meteorological authorities, Cyclone Ditwah has intensified near the country, bringing strong winds and dangerous sea conditions. A Red Level Heavy Rain Warning remains in effect for the entire island until 8.30 p.m. on 28 November 2025.
The Government of Sri Lanka has announced that 28 November will be a holiday for all government offices except essential services due to the worsening weather risk.
The High Commission is advising Maldivians to avoid non essential travel, especially through flood and landslide prone areas, and to remain indoors during heavy rain and strong winds. The public has been urged to closely follow updates from Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology and the Disaster Management Centre.
Essential items including water, medication, important documents and charged mobile phones should be kept ready at all times. Maldivians are asked to ensure passports and identification documents are easily accessible and to move to safer areas if residing in low lying or high risk zones. Caution near rivers, lakes and coastal regions is strongly advised as water levels continue to rise.
