Maldives Police Service has confirmed that 78 drug pellets were recovered from the body of a Nepali national who was discovered dead inside a guesthouse room in Hulhumalé last week.
The man, identified as a 40-year-old Nepali citizen, was found on 30 November with no visible external injuries. Authorities conducted a CT scan as part of the post-mortem process, which revealed multiple foreign objects inside his digestive system. Further examination confirmed the items to be drug pellets weighing a total of 818 grams.
Man Arrived With Two Others Who Later Left the Country
Police stated that the deceased entered the Maldives on 26 November along with two other Nepali nationals. The trio reportedly checked into a Hulhumalé guesthouse during the early hours of 28 November. However, the other two individuals allegedly departed the Maldives later that same day, shortly after checking in.
Authorities are now working to verify their identities, track flight information, and determine whether they were involved in a coordinated attempt to traffic drugs into the country.
Medical Extraction Conducted Outside Hospital Setting
Investigators noted that, due to the condition of the body, the drug extraction could not be performed through standard medical procedures. Instead, the process was carried out under the supervision of medical experts and specialist doctors.
Police have referred the matter to the Prosecutor General’s Office for guidance on next steps, including legal handling of the recovered narcotics.
Investigation Ongoing
MPS stated that the case remains active and that additional details cannot be disclosed at this stage. Officers are working to determine the full scope of the operation, identify potential accomplices, and confirm whether the deceased was acting as a drug courier.
Authorities also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims about the case and to rely only on official statements as the investigation progresses.
