First Lady Sajidha Leads National Push for Inclusive Jobs as STELCO Hires 30 Staff with Disabilities

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 22 hours ago

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has underscored that inclusive employment for persons with disabilities strengthens families and delivers long term national gains, reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to broadening opportunities across the workforce. She delivered the remarks at a STELCO ceremony dedicated to promoting disability inclusive recruitment, where 30 new employees received their appointment letters.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady said integrating persons with disabilities into professional environments enhances their overall wellbeing, improves financial independence, and deepens social belonging. She noted that workplace friendships offer vital emotional support, while recognition from colleagues helps build confidence and motivation.

She added that participating in structured routines and completing daily tasks fosters discipline, strengthens personal attributes, and accelerates skills development. According to her, these experiences open pathways for individuals to expand their capabilities and contribute meaningfully to national progress. The initiative, she emphasised, aligns closely with the Administration’s policy to create broader employment avenues for persons with disabilities.

The ceremony also carried a sombre note as a moment of silence was observed in memory of long serving STELCO employee Ahmed Azmeel, who passed away today while receiving treatment abroad. The First Lady extended heartfelt condolences to his family, recognising his more than two decades of dedicated service. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu separately conveyed his sympathies to Azmeel’s family and STELCO staff in a message shared on social media.

The event was attended by Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham and senior officials of STELCO.
