President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a decisive government crackdown on illegal massage parlours in Malé City, revealing that 52 establishments have been shut down within just one week under a special multi-agency operation.
Speaking at a public meeting with residents of Galolhu Ward, the President described the issue as a major social concern affecting the entire city, stressing that it has long been raised by the public during community engagements. He said the government responded by escalating enforcement efforts beyond routine monitoring.

Following high-level coordination among relevant authorities, a special operation was launched on the 9th of this month, with additional manpower and resources deployed. As of the 16th, inspections led to the forced closure of 24 massage parlours due to identified irregularities, while a further 28 shut down voluntarily after recognising the government’s firm stance.
President Muizzu said the swift results have already had a positive impact on public confidence, demonstrating the effectiveness of focused enforcement under the leadership of “Riyaadh Aalam”. He confirmed that operations will continue every night until the issue is fully addressed.
The President also revealed that around 10 foreign nationals found to be illegally present at these establishments have been apprehended and will be deported following due legal process.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to resolving deep-rooted social problems, President Muizzu thanked the public for their feedback and vigilance, stating that every concern raised by citizens plays a vital role in shaping government action.
The Galolhu meeting follows similar engagements held recently in Maafannu, Machangolhi, Henveiru and Vilimalé, as part of President Muizzu’s ongoing ward-level initiative to directly listen to public concerns and respond with concrete action.
