Yesterday, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) marked another milestone in national aviation infrastructure development as its senior leadership attended the inauguration of the newly completed apron and the groundbreaking ceremony for the terminal extension at Maafaru International Airport.

MTCC’s Managing Director, Ahmed Saudee, and Chairman, Mohamed Afeef Hussain, represented the company at the ceremony held yesterday, underscoring MTCC’s central role in delivering strategic transport infrastructure projects across the Maldives.
In recognition of MTCC’s successful delivery of the Apron Extension Project, Island Aviation Services Limited awarded the company a plaque of appreciation for excellence in workmanship and project execution. The plaque was presented by IASL’s Non-Executive Director, Abdulla Saeed, and formally received by Ahmed Saudee on behalf of MTCC.

The apron expansion enhances aircraft parking and ground handling capacity at Maafaru International Airport, supporting increased private jet, charter, and long-haul operations. The simultaneous groundbreaking of the terminal extension signals the next phase of capacity growth, aimed at improving passenger flow, operational efficiency, and service standards.
Maafaru International Airport plays a critical role in the Maldives’ high-end tourism and aviation ecosystem, particularly for Noonu Atoll and surrounding resort destinations. The latest developments further strengthen its position as a key northern aviation gateway, while reinforcing MTCC’s reputation as a leading contractor for complex, high-impact infrastructure projects nationwide.
