Maldivians Urged to Secure Visas Before Travelling to Bangladesh

Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory for Maldivians planning to visit Bangladesh, as the country prepares for its upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for February 12.

The advisory comes amid heightened security arrangements in Bangladesh during the election period. As part of these measures, Bangladeshi authorities will temporarily suspend visa-on-arrival services for foreign travellers from January 15 to February 15.

The Foreign Ministry has urged Maldivian travellers intending to visit Bangladesh during this period to secure the required visa in advance, warning that failure to do so could result in travel disruptions or denial of entry upon arrival.

According to the advisory, visas must be obtained through the High Commission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, located in Hulhumalé. Travellers are strongly encouraged to apply well ahead of their planned travel dates to avoid last-minute complications.

For further assistance or visa-related enquiries, the ministry advised travellers to contact the Bangladeshi High Commission directly by phone at 3320859 or via email at [email protected].

The Foreign Ministry said the advisory is intended to ensure Maldivians are fully informed of the temporary changes and can plan their travel safely and smoothly during the election period.
