First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has cautioned that electing local council members who openly position themselves against the government delivers no tangible benefit to the public, stressing that cooperation is essential for development and stability.

Speaking at the inauguration of a campaign hub in the Maafannu South constituency, Sajidha said the public clearly recognises President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as a committed and hardworking leader. She emphasised that local councils must consist of individuals prepared to work alongside such leadership to ensure policies translate into real outcomes for communities.

She noted that representatives who campaign on obstructing government initiatives ultimately undermine public interests, adding that the achievements and reforms introduced by the current administration are visible across the country. According to the First Lady, governance succeeds when institutions move in the same direction, not when they are locked in constant confrontation.
Sajidha also called on educated and hardworking citizens to enter politics, highlighting the need for capable individuals who understand both public service and national priorities. She expressed confidence that the administration’s approach to religious affairs has earned broad public acceptance and trust.

She further observed that the President is presently undertaking difficult yet necessary decisions to address deep rooted social challenges, decisions she said require support rather than resistance at the local level.
Concluding her remarks, the First Lady urged voters to elect candidates in the upcoming local council elections who are genuinely committed to public welfare. She called for representatives who will cooperate with the government, clearly convey citizens’ concerns, and help drive sustainable progress across communities.
