RCC Delivers Landmark Shaheed Ali School, Setting a New Standard for Public Infrastructure

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 4 hours ago

Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) has reinforced its standing as one of the Maldives’ most reliable construction firms with the successful completion and handover of Shaheed Ali School, a flagship education project in Hulhumalé Phase 2.

Delivered under a contractor-financed, design-and-build model, the MVR 247 million project was completed within two years and formally handed over to the government in time for the new academic year. The school has now commenced operations, serving students from Grade 1 to Grade 10.

The project reflects RCC’s growing capacity to deliver large-scale public infrastructure while shouldering financial responsibility, a model that eases immediate fiscal pressure on the state while accelerating development timelines. Under the financing arrangement, government repayments are scheduled to begin on 1 February next year and will be settled over a five-year period.

The foundation stone for Shaheed Ali School was laid in December 2023 by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Construction progressed swiftly following the current administration’s decision to prioritise the project, which had faced delays after being initially awarded to RCC in June 2021.

Designed as one of the most advanced school facilities in the Greater Malé region, the campus features 54 fully equipped classrooms, each accommodating up to 32 students. The school has a total capacity of 1,950 students and operates on a two-shift system supported by 230 teachers.

Beyond classrooms, RCC delivered a comprehensive educational environment, including a 400-seat auditorium, library, computer laboratory, three chemistry labs, indoor and outdoor halls, and fully furnished learning spaces. All classrooms are equipped with air-conditioning and modern teaching aids, including television screens. To ensure accessibility, the building is fitted with three elevators, each with a 20-person capacity.

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafee has described Shaheed Ali School as the most modern educational facility currently serving the Malé region, noting that all preparations were completed to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted start to the academic year.

The school, named after national hero Ali Rasgefaanu, was officially inaugurated by President Muizzu during a special assembly attended by senior government officials and RCC Chairman Mohamed Nazim.

For RCC, the successful delivery of Shaheed Ali School underscores the company’s technical expertise, financial strength, and commitment to national development. As demand grows for high-quality public infrastructure delivered under innovative financing models, RCC’s performance on this project positions the firm as a trusted partner for future large-scale developments across the Maldives.
