President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took part in the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation with Dhaka.

The ceremony marked the formal assumption of office by the new government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. President Muizzu’s presence underscored the importance Male’ places on its longstanding partnership with Bangladesh, a key regional ally since diplomatic relations were established in 1978.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, President Muizzu held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Rahman, where both leaders discussed avenues to expand collaboration across priority sectors. Talks focused on trade, labour cooperation, education, and people-to-people exchanges, areas that remain central to the Maldives–Bangladesh relationship.
Bangladesh continues to be an important partner for the Maldives, particularly in workforce engagement and regional connectivity. The discussions are expected to pave the way for renewed agreements and stronger institutional coordination under the new Bangladeshi administration.
President Muizzu’s participation in the historic event signals Male’s readiness to work closely with the incoming leadership in Dhaka, reinforcing regional solidarity and shared development goals.
