Bank of Maldives has introduced a streamlined digital process allowing Maldivians travelling overseas for medical treatment to apply for medical dollars directly through its Mobile Banking App.
Under the new arrangement, customers can submit applications, upload required documents, and track the status of their requests entirely within the app, eliminating the need for branch visits and manual paperwork.
Patients receiving overseas medical treatment under the Aasandha and National Social Protection Agency schemes are eligible to obtain up to USD 2,000. Individuals who are self-financing their medical treatment abroad can apply for up to USD 1,000.
The bank clarified that medical dollars will now be credited exclusively to USD accounts. Customers who do not already hold a USD account can open one conveniently through the Mobile Banking App as part of the application process.
The initiative is part of Bank of Maldives’ broader efforts to enhance digital banking services and improve access to essential financial support for customers, particularly those requiring urgent medical care overseas.
By digitising the medical dollar application process, the bank aims to reduce processing times, improve transparency, and provide greater convenience to patients and their families during what is often a critical period.
Bank of Maldives continues to expand its mobile banking capabilities as part of its ongoing digital transformation strategy, focusing on faster services, simplified procedures, and improved customer experience.
