Maldives Airports Company Limited activated its Disruption Management Center at Velana International Airport immediately after flight cancellations began yesterday, as regional airspace restrictions linked to Middle East instability impacted scheduled operations.
Since the first cancellations were recorded, MACL convened urgent coordination meetings with key stakeholders, including airline partners, ground handling teams, security services and relevant government authorities. The objective was to ensure a structured, unified operational response and minimise inconvenience to passengers.
The Disruption Management Center was formally launched as part of this effort, centralising decision making, real time communication and passenger support measures. The domestic terminal was brought into use to ease congestion and improve service delivery for affected travellers.
Dedicated airline service counters were established, with representatives stationed on site to assist passengers with re bookings, travel guidance and other immediate needs. Additional MACL personnel were deployed across the airport to strengthen coordination and provide direct support.
Authorities confirmed that while certain routes have been affected by external airspace limitations beyond Maldives control, general airport operations continue as scheduled for other destinations.
MACL stated that it will continue close engagement with stakeholders and provide updates as the situation evolves, reaffirming its commitment to operational stability and passenger welfare during this period of disruption.
