Maldives Condemns Attack on UAE Consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan

By Hussain Shinan Published 6 hours ago

The Government of the Maldives has strongly condemned the recent attack targeting the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, describing the incident as a serious breach of international diplomatic norms.

In a statement issued on the matter, the government expressed concern over the targeting of diplomatic premises, noting that such acts represent a violation of established international agreements governing diplomatic relations.

Officials highlighted that attacks against diplomatic missions undermine the principles set out in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which outlines the protections afforded to embassies and consulates around the world.

The Maldives reiterated the importance of safeguarding diplomatic facilities and ensuring the safety of personnel working in foreign missions. Authorities stressed that respecting these protections is essential for maintaining stable and constructive international relations.

In its statement, the government also conveyed its solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, extending support to both the government and the people of the country in the aftermath of the incident.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to upholding international law and diplomatic norms, while standing alongside partners in condemning acts that threaten diplomatic security.
