The government has moved swiftly to safeguard national energy and supply security as escalating tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt global markets and drive up oil prices, Minister of Economic Development and Trade announced.
In a statement shared on X, the Minister confirmed that the administration of President has implemented proactive measures to shield the Maldivian economy from external shocks, ensuring uninterrupted access to fuel and essential goods across the country.
The (STO), which oversees national fuel imports, is continuing operations under its established supply framework, securing shipments through pre-arranged nomination agreements with international suppliers. As part of these efforts, two fuel shipments have already arrived in the Maldives this week, with additional deliveries scheduled in line with existing timelines.
The government emphasised that these coordinated measures are designed to maintain stability in the domestic market despite mounting global uncertainties. Authorities reassured the public that there will be no shortages of fuel, cooking gas, staple foods, or other essential commodities.
The statement underscores the administration’s broader strategy to reinforce national resilience and ensure uninterrupted supply chains, even as geopolitical tensions place increasing pressure on small island economies heavily reliant on imports.
Officials reiterated that maintaining consistent access to essential goods remains a top priority, with contingency planning and supply coordination ongoing to meet national demand without disruption.
