President Mohamed Muizzu has called on Malé residents to unite behind Moosa Ali Jaleel, positioning his candidacy as central to advancing development in the capital.
Addressing a large gathering of supporters at the People’s National Congress headquarters, President Muizzu stressed that the upcoming council elections are critical to ensuring the smooth implementation of government projects.

“I urge all citizens of Malé to vote with a national perspective for the development of our city,” he said.
The President highlighted Jaleel’s role during the 1988 Maldives coup attempt, describing him as a national figure who demonstrated courage and leadership in defending the country. He emphasised the importance of educating younger generations about such historical contributions.
President Muizzu appealed for cross-party support, stating that national interest must take precedence over political affiliation. He added that effective local councils are essential to delivering day-to-day services and ensuring that development projects are not delayed by political differences.

The President also pledged to revitalise Women’s Development Committees, acknowledging past shortcomings and promising stronger leadership and resources to empower women socially and economically.
He further stressed voter awareness, reminding citizens that all eligible voters can participate in WDC elections and should utilise all three ballots on election day.
President Muizzu concluded by warning that electing opposition-aligned councils could slow progress, framing the vote as a decisive moment for Malé’s future.
