Power Outage Reported in Parts of Malé Due to Cable Damage

By Hussain Shinan Published March 11, 2026

A power outage has affected several areas of the capital following damage to a low-voltage cable in the electricity network, according to State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).

The disruption has impacted households in multiple streets, including Rathvilla Higun, Kalafaanu Higun, Lonuziyaaraiy Magu, Moonimaa Higun, Buruzu Magu, and Irudheemaa Higun.

STELCO said the interruption was caused by damage to a section of the low-voltage distribution system, resulting in a temporary loss of electricity supply to the affected areas. Technical teams have been deployed and are currently working to identify the fault and restore power as quickly as possible.

While no specific timeline has been provided for full restoration, efforts are ongoing to minimise the duration of the outage. The company has apologised for the inconvenience caused and advised residents to remain patient as repair works continue.
