The President’s Office has reaffirmed that President Mohamed Muizzu will continue holding his weekly press briefings every Monday, despite the absence of a session this week.
In a statement shared on social media, Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed said the administration remains committed to the policy introduced earlier this year, under which the President meets journalists on a regular weekly basis.
The initiative was first announced during the President’s address at the opening of the People’s Majlis for the current legislative year. At the time, President Muizzu pledged to dedicate Mondays to engaging directly with the press, except in cases of official travel or urgent state responsibilities.
However, no briefing was held this week, despite the President and the First Lady having recently returned to the Maldives following their Umrah pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The President’s Office has not provided a specific explanation for the missed session.
Addressing the matter, Heena Waleed reiterated that the weekly briefings will continue in line with the policy that came into effect on March 1, 2026. She added that schedules for upcoming sessions will be announced in advance in the coming weeks.
The weekly briefings are intended to run for approximately one hour, offering journalists a consistent opportunity to engage with the President and seek clarification on government policies and national issues.
