Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced a series of temporary traffic diversions at Velana International Airport as part of planned maintenance work.
According to MACL, the changes will be in effect from April 23 to April 30, with diversions applied only during late-night hours between midnight and 5:00 AM. The schedule has been designed to reduce disruption during peak travel times.
The adjustments are required to facilitate maintenance work on the roof of the Terminal 2 pedestrian crossing, a key area within the airport’s infrastructure.
Under the temporary arrangements, taxi services will be rerouted, with the Terminal 2 taxi stop closed during the maintenance window. All taxis dropping off passengers for both international and domestic flights will instead operate from Terminal 1, specifically at Departure Gates 1 and 2.
Public transport services will also be affected. Buses operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company will use the West Parking internal bus stop exclusively for both boarding and drop-offs during the specified hours.
Meanwhile, MACL’s internal bus routes will be partially adjusted. Route 1, which begins from the Air Traffic Control area, will end at Terminal 1 Arrival Gate 1. Route 2 services heading toward the water supply area will depart from the roundabout near Terminal 2.
Despite these route changes, MACL confirmed that bus schedules will remain unchanged. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume outside of the designated time frame each day.
Passengers and transport providers have been advised to take note of the temporary arrangements and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays during the late-night period.
