Maldives Police Service searched the office of online outlet Adhadhu late Sunday as authorities moved to verify claims made in the controversial Aisha documentary, following growing public calls for the truth behind the allegations to be established.
Police confirmed officers were executing a Criminal Court-approved search warrant at Adhadhu’s office as part of an active criminal investigation.
“The Maldives Police Service is currently executing a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court at the office of ‘Adhadhu’ news. This action is being conducted as part of an active criminal investigation,” police said in a statement.
Police said further details could not be disclosed at this stage due to confidentiality requirements tied to ongoing investigations.
Sources at the scene said Adhadhu’s owners were present during the search alongside their legal counsel, underscoring that the process was being carried out openly and under legal oversight.
The police action comes after mounting public demands for authorities to examine the accuracy of claims presented in the Aisha documentary, which has triggered widespread debate across the Maldives.
Many social media users had called for a formal inquiry to determine whether the allegations made in the documentary were factual.
Police said the public would be updated as the investigation progresses.
