Mohamed Lamaan has resigned from his post as Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited, marking the end of a tenure widely viewed as one of the most efficient within President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration
Government sources confirmed that Lamaan will be reassigned to a senior executive position at another state-owned enterprise, with administrative formalities for the transition currently in progress.
Lamaan, who joined MACL on February 1, 2024, played a key operational role in overseeing developments at Velana International Airport, the country’s primary aviation hub. During his tenure, the airport continued to expand passenger handling capacity and streamline operational efficiency amid sustained tourism growth.
Industry observers and officials familiar with MACL’s internal operations describe Lamaan as a results-driven executive who strengthened institutional coordination and delivery speed. His leadership style, focused on execution and accountability, contributed to improved operational responsiveness at a time when the airport was managing increasing traffic volumes and infrastructure upgrades.
Prior to his role at MACL, Lamaan served as Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation during the latter part of former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, where he gained experience in managing large-scale state utilities and complex service networks.
Following his resignation, Mujuthaba Latheef will continue in his role as Deputy Managing Director of MACL, ensuring continuity in the company’s leadership.
Lamaan’s reassignment is expected to see him take on broader responsibilities within the state sector, as the government leverages experienced executives to strengthen performance across key public enterprises.
