Maldives police hotlines down, 9888999 activated as backup

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 16 hours ago

A technical disruption has knocked out the Maldives’ primary emergency response channels, with police confirming that the 911 hotline and key emergency numbers are currently inaccessible.

In a public advisory issued Monday morning, the Maldives Police Service said the outage is affecting the national emergency line 911 as well as hotline numbers 3322111 and 3322112, raising immediate concerns over public access to urgent assistance.

Authorities stated that technical teams are actively working to restore the services, but did not specify the cause of the failure or how long the disruption is expected to last.

As a temporary measure, police have urged the public to use the alternative number 9888999 for emergency situations until normal services resume.

The outage highlights the vulnerability of critical communication infrastructure in emergencies, where uninterrupted access to rapid response services is vital. Police have called for public patience while efforts to resolve the issue continue.
