MACL rolls out special Hajj departure arrangements at Velana Airport

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 3 hours ago

Maldives Airports Company Limited has announced special operational arrangements at Velana International Airport to facilitate the departure of Maldivian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the 1447 Hajj pilgrimage.

The arrangements were coordinated jointly with Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Maldives Hajj Corporation and other relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and organised travel experience for pilgrims departing from the Maldives.

According to MACL, Maldivian pilgrims will depart on four dedicated flights this year, including two operated by Maldivian and two by Saudia under the “Makkah Route Initiative.” Flights are scheduled to depart on May 15, 17, 18 and 19.

The first Saudia flight, scheduled for May 15, will carry 242 pilgrims. On that day, buses transporting pilgrims will arrive at the area in front of the former domestic terminal at VIA. Arrangements have also been made for pilgrims to perform Friday prayers on the ground floor of the Waterfront building before departure.

For pilgrims travelling on May 17, 18 and 19, buses will drop passengers at the Terminal 2 drop-off zone, while the designated waiting area will be located at the Terminal 2 Concourse area.

MACL said dedicated teams will remain stationed across the designated areas throughout the departure periods to assist pilgrims and coordinate operations, aiming to ensure a seamless departure process for all travellers heading to the annual pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
