The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has introduced a major organizational restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening coordination across departments, and enhancing public service delivery.
In a statement, police said the changes are intended to achieve better administrative outcomes, improve professional standards, and create a more effective policing system capable of responding to the country’s evolving security challenges.
Under the revised structure, key policing functions such as investigations, intelligence, forensics, operational support, technology, training, and corporate services have been reorganized under dedicated commands.
The new command-level entities are:
- Office of the Commissioner
- National College of Policing and Law Enforcement
- Professional Standards
- National Intelligence Service
- Internal Security and Operational Support
- Forensic Services
- Central Investigations
- Male’ Police
- Hulhumale’ Police
- Northern Police
- Southern Police
- Service Development
- Service Support
- Digital Data and Technology
The restructuring reduces the number of commands from 17 under the framework introduced on October 1, 2021, to 14 commands under the new model.
According to MPS, the streamlined structure is expected to strengthen collaboration between departments, improve operational management, and make police services more accessible to the public. The changes are also designed to empower frontline officers and ensure resources are deployed more effectively across the organization.
Police said implementation of the new structure is already underway, with officers being assigned to their respective positions and administrative policies being updated to align with the revised framework.
The move comes as the service seeks to modernize its operations and build a more agile policing system capable of meeting the Maldives’ growing security and public safety needs.
