Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) has strongly denied allegations made by former Controller General of Maldives Immigration, Mohamed Shamman Waheed, against President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, describing the claims as entirely fabricated.
In a series of posts published on X before his sentencing hearing on Tuesday, Shamman accused Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Attorney General Ahmed Usham, and President Muizzu of involvement in alleged irregularities related to the country’s Border Control System and foreign worker quota approvals.
Shamman claimed he had attempted to block the sale of the Border Control System to private parties and alleged that President Muizzu personally contacted him several times regarding the matter. According to Shamman, the President insisted the decision would proceed despite his objections.
He further alleged that Minister Ihusaan and Attorney General Usham were behind what he described as an unlawful scheme involving the Border Control System, claiming evidence remained on a mobile phone currently in police custody.
In addition, Shamman accused Minister Ihusaan of benefiting from an alleged illicit operation involving foreign labor quotas and work permits. He claimed he had informed President Muizzu of the matter in January 2025, alleging that payments were being collected for quota allocations and work permit approvals.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, told local outlet Sauvees that the claims made by the former Immigration Controller against President Muizzu were completely false and without any basis.
The President’s Office has not provided further details regarding the allegations, while no official response has yet been issued by Minister Ihusaan or Attorney General Usham.
