President Muizzu’s Housing for All pledge advances as verification begins for 57,000 applications

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 5 hours ago

The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has begun verifying applications for flats and land plots in the Greater Malé Region under the government’s “Housing for All” programme, moving President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s flagship housing pledge into its next administrative stage.

More than 57,900 applications were submitted before the deadline, including over 35,900 applications for flats and more than 22,000 for land plots.

The Ministry said applications are being cross-checked against information held by government agencies and local councils to confirm the accuracy of details submitted by applicants.

Applicants whose information contains discrepancies will receive a notification through the “Boahiyaavahikan” portal. If an applicant believes the information cited in the notice is incorrect, they will have seven days to submit a detailed response with supporting documents.

Failure to respond within the seven-day period could result in an application being classified as incomplete or ineligible, the Ministry warned.

All responses must be submitted exclusively through the Hiyaavahi portal. The Ministry will not accept responses sent by email, letter or other channels during the verification stage. Applicants will also receive SMS notifications on the mobile number registered with their application whenever their status is updated.

President Muizzu has placed housing at the centre of his administration’s domestic agenda, pledging to expand access to housing and land for Maldivian families. The government began administrative preparations for the programme ahead of physical construction to identify eligible beneficiaries and streamline allocation.

Applications for the latest housing opportunities opened on January 18 after the government strengthened the existing portal and revised policies based on public feedback.

The verification exercise will now determine which applicants meet the requirements to proceed to the subsequent stages of the government’s Greater Malé housing programme.
