Government Working to Secure Exclusive Opportunities for Maldivian Students at Top Global Universities

By The Standard Published December 1, 2024

The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development is actively working to open up exclusive opportunities for Maldivian students at some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

In a recent appearance on PSM News, Dr. Abdulla Nazeer, the Minister of State for Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, highlighted ongoing efforts to help Maldivians secure placements at top institutions across the globe.

Dr. Nazeer pointed out that the Presidential Scholarship remains one of the most sought-after and prestigious awards for local students. This year, the scholarship was granted to 19 students, who will have the freedom to pursue their studies at any university and in any field of their choice.

While the opportunity is significant, Dr. Nazeer acknowledged that some students have faced challenges in securing placements at these top global institutions. He reassured the public that the ministry is addressing these concerns and taking steps to ensure that more students can take full advantage of such scholarships in the future.

Alongside the Presidential Scholarship, the government continues to offer a wide range of scholarships and educational loan schemes to support Maldivian students in their academic pursuits. Currently, over 2,249 Maldivian students are studying abroad through these various initiatives.

The ministry’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities reflects its ongoing efforts to equip the nation’s youth with the skills and qualifications necessary to thrive in the global job market.
