By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 16, 2024

Maldives is on the brink of achieving its ambitious goal of welcoming two million tourists this year, with just 80,000 more visitors needed. Recent data from the Ministry of Tourism reveals that as of Saturday, 1,920,119 tourists have already visited the island nation, marking an impressive 8.9% increase from the same period last year, which saw 1,763,710 arrivals.

In the first half of this month alone, 82,484 tourists have enjoyed the Maldives’ stunning landscapes and luxury accommodations. With an average daily arrival rate of 5,502 visitors and an average stay of 7.7 days, projections indicate that the target will be met by month’s end.

Leading the charge in tourist numbers are China with 257,794 visitors (13.4%), followed by Russia at 212,685 (11.1%), the United Kingdom with 168,460 (8.8%), Germany at 148,402 (7.7%), and Italy with 129,513 (6.3%).
