Maldives Sees Decline in Import Value for November

By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 28, 2024

In November, the Maldives imported goods totaling four billion rufiyaa, according to statistics from Maldives Customs. This amount includes expenditures on fuel. Comparatively, in November of the previous year, imports were higher at 4.3 billion rufiyaa, also factoring in fuel costs. When excluding fuel expenses, the value of imports last November remained steady at 3.4 billion rufiyaa, similar to the same month the previous year.

Food items stood out as the most imported category, with imports valued at 883 million rufiyaa. Machinery followed as the second largest import category, with 717 million rufiyaa worth of machinery brought into the country. Additionally, fuel imports, including diesel, petrol, and aviation gas, amounted to 582 million rufiyaa.

The United Arab Emirates was the leading source of Maldivian imports, contributing goods worth one billion rufiyaa. China and India followed, with imports valued at 608 million and 582 million rufiyaa, respectively.
