Japanese Legislator Passes Away in Maldives During Holiday

By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 28, 2024

A Japanese legislator, vacationing at a Maldivian resort, has passed away. Authorities reported that at 8:33 AM yesterday, an incident involving a 70-year-old Japanese tourist was recorded. The individual was discovered deceased while snorkeling in the sea near a resort in Lhaviyani Atoll. The police have yet to disclose additional information.

Various media sources, referencing Japan’s ruling party, have suggested that the deceased is Toshiyuki Adachi, a member of the Japanese parliament. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Japanese parliament at this time. Despite this, “Mihaaru,” a local news outlet, claims to have verified that Mr. Adachi was indeed the individual who passed away in the Maldives.

The Foreign Ministry has yet to issue a statement regarding this incident.
