Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has announced that the current spell of inclement weather is anticipated to persist until Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across much of the archipelago.
Central and northern atolls are expected to experience the most significant impact, with forecasts predicting substantial downpours and electrical storms. In the southern islands, residents have been cautioned about the possibility of swell waves affecting coastal areas.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution, as sea conditions are projected to range from moderately rough to rough, with wave heights between 2 and 5 feet. Wind patterns will vary, blowing from the northwest and north in the southern atolls, and from the north and northeast in other regions, at speeds of 8 to 18 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 30 miles per hour in certain areas.
In the past 24 hours, B. Goidhoo recorded the heaviest rainfall, measuring 43.4 millimeters. The MET Office attributes the prevailing weather conditions to a circulation and its associated trough that has developed in the eastern part of the Maldives.
