Man Arrested for Repeated ‘Dine and Dash’ Offenses

By Ahmed Ashraf Published February 5, 2025

A 23-year-old local has been arrested for allegedly failing to pay for meals at local cafes, according to a recent Criminal Court order.

In court proceedings, the individual claimed that after dining, he attempted to contact his elder brother to settle the bill. He stated that his brother’s phone was switched off but assured that the payment had been transferred.

However, the Investigating Officer (IO) reported that no such payment was made. The IO further highlighted that the man’s family disclosed his habitual engagement in similar behavior.

Consequently, the court has remanded the individual for a period of 10 days.

The term “dine and dash” refers to the act of consuming food or services at an establishment and leaving without paying. Such actions result in financial losses for businesses and can lead to legal consequences for the perpetrators.

This incident underscores the challenges faced by local businesses in addressing non-payment issues and the importance of prompt legal action to deter such offenses.
