Minister Thoriq Urges Global Action: “Small Islands Can’t Fight Climate Change Alone”

By Ahmed Ashraf Published February 12, 2025

At the World Government Summit 2025, Maldives’ Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, emphasized the critical need for international collaboration to secure a resilient future for small island nations facing the brunt of climate change.

Participating in the “Sustainable Development Goals in Action 2025” panel discussion, Minister Thoriq highlighted the urgency of implementing immediate measures against climate change. He pointed out that developing small island nations are among the most vulnerable to environmental damages. Despite these challenges, such countries are diligently working to enhance their resilience.

The Maldives is prioritizing the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure and the sustainable protection of its natural resources. However, Minister Thoriq stressed that achieving a climate-resilient future is unattainable without international assistance.
