President Lays Foundation Stone for New Mosque with Research Library in Hulhumale

By Hussain Shinan Published March 5, 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially laid the foundation stone for a new mosque in Hulhumale, which will feature a state-of-the-art research library. The ceremonial event took place today, marking the beginning of what will be a significant addition to the area’s religious and educational landscape.

The mosque, to be named Masjid Umm-al-Momineen Aisha (RA), honors the revered wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Aisha (RA). The foundation ceremony was attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, along with several key cabinet ministers.

This mosque will be located on the site of a temporary tin mosque near Redwave Mall in Phase 1 of Hulhumale, which has served the local community for many years. Once completed, the new mosque will not only serve as a place of worship for around 2,000 individuals but also as a center for Islamic research and education.

The mosque is being funded through a generous donation from Sheikh Ismail Mohammed, with Medina Investment overseeing the construction efforts. The mosque will be a two-story structure that includes a dedicated research library aimed at supporting Islamic researchers and students, making it the first mosque in Hulhumale to offer such a facility.

In addition to its academic and religious purposes, the mosque will also provide essential amenities, including air conditioning powered by a full solar energy system, toilets, and a designated prayer space for women.

Scheduled to be completed by Ramadan 2026, the mosque’s opening will coincide with the holy month, bringing not only a place of worship but also a new hub for learning. Following its opening, the mosque will host Islamic lectures and other educational programs, contributing to the spiritual growth and knowledge of the community.

The new Masjid Umm-al-Momineen Aisha (RA) is set to become an important pillar of both religious and academic life in Hulhumale, offering a peaceful and innovative space for worshippers and scholars alike.
