X Goes Dark: Thousands Report Major Outages Across the Globe

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 10, 2025

On Monday, March 10, 2025, X, formerly known as Twitter, encountered several outages, disrupting service for users globally. The initial disruption began around 5:30 a.m. Eastern Time (3:30 p.m. Maldives Time), with over 19,000 incident reports in the United States, according to Downdetector.com.

After a brief restoration, a second, more extensive outage occurred at approximately 10 a.m. ET (8 p.m. Maldives Time), with user reports exceeding 40,000. Users experienced difficulties accessing their timelines, posting updates, and viewing content.

A third spike in outage reports was observed around 11:28 a.m. ET (9:28 p.m. Maldives Time), with more than 28,000 users reporting issues. Downdetector data indicated that 56% of the problems were related to the X app, while 33% pertained to the website.

As of 11:25 a.m. ET (9:25 p.m. Maldives Time), the platform’s status remained unstable, with no official statement from X regarding the cause of these disruptions.

This incident follows a similar outage in March 2023, when the platform, then known as Twitter, experienced glitches for over an hour, affecting link functionality, login capabilities, and image loading.

Users expressed their frustrations on alternative social media platforms, seeking confirmation and updates about the service interruptions.

As of now, the cause of these outages remains unclear, and users are advised to monitor official channels for updates.
