Immigration Shuts Down Illegal Food Operation in Malé, Three Foreigners Detained

By Hussain Shinan Published March 14, 2025

Maldives Immigration has detained three foreign nationals involved in an illegal food trade operation in Malé, following a tip-off that led to their arrest.

The authorities received a report from Immigration Watch on March 5, detailing suspicious activities related to the operation of M. Harmony, a residence being used for unauthorized food preparation and delivery. The operation reportedly took place between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Acting swiftly on the information, Immigration officials conducted a search of the premises and discovered three foreign nationals working outside the scope of their permits. The individuals were subsequently detained for engaging in the illegal operation.

This latest action is part of a broader crackdown by the government on illegal immigration and unauthorized labor. According to Immigration, over 6,000 undocumented foreign workers have been deported this year alone, as part of the ongoing efforts to address and curb illegal employment in the country.

In addition to routine deportations, Immigration has been ramping up enforcement measures, carrying out frequent raids targeting both workplaces and residences to identify and remove individuals working without proper documentation.

The authorities continue to warn that such illegal activities, particularly those involving foreign nationals working outside their legal parameters, will be met with strict action.
