Ooredoo Maldives’ AI-Powered Calendar Revives Maldivian Folklore

By Ahmed Ashraf Published April 7, 2025

In an innovative fusion of tradition and technology, Ooredoo Maldives has unveiled its 2025 calendar, “Future Meets Nostalgia,” spotlighting Santhi Mariyambu as April’s featured character. This initiative breathes new life into Maldivian folklore by integrating artificial intelligence, allowing users to interact with legendary figures through AI-powered chatbots.

Santhi Mariyambu, a nocturnal figure from Maldivian tales, is said to exchange worn teeth for pristine ones, rewarding the virtuous and reminding others of the perils of idle gossip. Her story, deeply embedded in local traditions, serves as a conduit for generational wisdom.

Launched earlier this year, the Ooredoo Calendar 2025 features 12 iconic characters from Maldivian folklore, including those from stories like “Foolhudhigu Handi” and “Safaru Kaiydha.” Each month introduces a new character, whom users can engage with via Ooredoo’s advanced AI chatbot technology. This interactive platform offers narratives, answers queries, and provides a fresh perspective on the Maldives’ rich cultural heritage.

This endeavor aligns with Ooredoo’s vision of fostering a Digital Maldives, utilizing cutting-edge technology to preserve and promote cultural heritage. By merging folklore with digital interactivity, Ooredoo ensures these timeless stories remain accessible and engaging for future generations.

As April unfolds, users are encouraged to connect with Santhi Mariyambu, delve into her narrative, and experience the enduring allure of Maldivian storytelling.
