By Ahmed Ashraf Published April 9, 2025

Maldives has recorded a 5% growth in tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, highlighting the nation’s continued allure as a top travel destination.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, 647,677 tourists visited the Maldives from January to March 2025, up from 615,415 arrivals during the same timeframe in 2024.

China has emerged as the leading source market, contributing 75,135 visitors, which accounts for approximately 11.6% of total arrivals. Russia follows with 68,375 tourists (10.6%), and the United Kingdom ranks third with 65,404 visitors (10.1%). Notably, the Indian market has seen a decline, with 32,702 arrivals recorded during this period.

Accommodation preferences indicate that 69.2% of tourists opted to stay in resorts, totaling 437,942 visitors. Guesthouses attracted 25.3% of tourists (159,695 visitors), while hotels and safari vessels accommodated 18,404 and 15,933 tourists, respectively.

The Maldivian government has set an ambitious target of attracting 2.2 million tourists by the end of 2025. The positive trends observed in the first quarter suggest that the nation is on a promising path to achieve this goal.
