President Muizzu Pledges Full Truth: No Cover-Ups, No Delays in Yumnu Investigation

By Ahmed Ashraf Published May 3, 2025

In a press conference held today at the President’s Office, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the government’s dedication to an impartial investigation into the incident involving 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who sustained severe injuries after falling from a building in Henveiru on April 18. The President highlighted that the Presidential Commission established to investigate the case would operate independently, free from any governmental or political influence, aiming to uncover the truth swiftly.

The commission, formed on April 27, comprises five members: former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munavvar (Chair), Brigadier General (Retd) Ahmed Mohamed, Dr. Moosa Murad, Jabeen Mohamed, and Aminath Eenas. President Muizzu stated that the selection prioritized individuals known for their integrity and public trust.

Dr. Munavvar, addressing concerns about the commission’s independence, affirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability. He stated, “If I cannot carry this out independently, if there is any pressure to influence me to decide something, I will resign immediately.” The commission also announced plans to launch a public portal to provide updates and facilitate public engagement, allowing citizens to submit questions and receive responses where appropriate.

Yumnu is currently receiving medical treatment in Malaysia, having undergone significant spinal surgery. The main suspect, Raudh Ahmed Zilal, who was with her at the time of the incident, has been arrested and is under investigation. Authorities have also imposed travel bans on several individuals connected to the case.

As the nation watches closely, the government’s handling of this case will be pivotal in restoring public trust and ensuring justice for Yumnu Rasheed.
