In a bold stride towards modernization, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has introduced “Maldives 2.0,” a comprehensive initiative aimed at transforming the island nation into a digitally empowered society. This ambitious plan seeks to integrate technology into every facet of governance and daily life, ensuring that digital services reach every citizen across the archipelago.

Eight Pillars of Transformation

Central to Maldives 2.0 are eight foundational pillars designed to guide the nation’s digital evolution:

1. Digital Identity & Trusted Transactions: Establishing a secure national ID system to facilitate safe and efficient digital interactions.

2. Open Data Sharing & Governance: Promoting transparency through accessible and interoperable government data systems.

3. Cybersecurity for National Resilience: Implementing robust measures to protect digital infrastructure and citizen data.

4. Modern Legal Framework for Digital Trust & Governance: Updating laws to support digital initiatives and safeguard rights in the digital realm.

5. Secure & Sovereign Digital Infrastructure: Developing national digital assets to ensure data sovereignty and security.

6. Citizen-Centric E-Government Services: Designing government services that are accessible, efficient, and tailored to citizen needs.

7. Sectoral Digital Transformation: Integrating digital solutions across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and justice.

8. ICT Ecosystem Development & Innovation: Fostering a vibrant tech industry to drive innovation and economic growth.
