In a bid to empower women and encourage female participation in technical fields, the State Electric Company (STELCO) has successfully wrapped up the first edition of its “Beginners Electrician Course for Women.”
The three-day program, designed specifically for women, introduced participants to the fundamentals of electrical work, including safe practices for handling electricity, basic wiring techniques, and energy-saving tips aimed at reducing household electricity costs.
According to STELCO, 16 women completed the inaugural batch, gaining essential knowledge and hands-on experience through the initiative.
The company noted that the course was part of its broader effort to raise awareness about electricity and promote greater gender diversity in traditionally male-dominated technical professions.
STELCO highlighted that one of the core goals of the training was to spark interest among women in the electrical field and to provide them with foundational skills that could serve as a stepping stone for further technical education or potential career paths in the energy sector.
The initiative reflects STELCO’s ongoing commitment to community outreach, skill development, and inclusive workforce opportunities in the Maldives.
