President Muizzu’s Singapore Visit to Spark Economic Growth and Stronger Alliances

By Ahmed Ashraf Published June 29, 2025

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed are set to embark on a landmark state visit to Singapore from June 29 to July 2, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the Maldives’ diplomatic outreach. The invitation was extended by Singapore’s President, His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, underscoring the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.

During this high-level visit, President Muizzu will hold crucial discussions with President Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, alongside several senior Singaporean cabinet ministers. These meetings aim to explore new avenues for cooperation in trade, development, and innovation, reinforcing Singapore’s position as one of the Maldives’ most reliable partners in Asia.

A major highlight of the visit will be President Muizzu’s participation in a prestigious business forum that brings together prominent Singaporean business leaders and investors. This engagement reflects the administration’s strong commitment to attracting foreign investment and creating new economic opportunities for Maldivians. Several significant agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed, laying the groundwork for enhanced collaboration across various strategic sectors.

In addition to official engagements, President Muizzu will meet with the Maldivian community residing in Singapore, reaffirming his dedication to connecting with Maldivians abroad and addressing their concerns directly.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1975, Singapore has remained a steadfast partner, supporting the Maldives in numerous development and capacity-building initiatives. This state visit is widely seen as a bold step forward in strengthening the already robust ties between the two countries and paving the way for shared prosperity.

As President Muizzu continues to champion a foreign policy focused on strategic partnerships and economic resilience, this visit to Singapore is expected to further solidify the Maldives’ standing on the global stage while opening new doors for national growth and innovation.
