This tea ceremony serves as a hallmark of soft diplomacy, enhancing the Maldives–Singapore bond which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, originally established in February 1975. The exchange underscores the role of First Ladies as cultural ambassadors fostering mutual social development.

Accompanying President Muizzu and Madam Sajidha is a delegation including Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, who is set to hold strategic discussions aimed at enhancing economic and developmental cooperation . The state visit comprises high-level investment forums, the signing of MoUs, and exploration of Singapore’s world-class infrastructure—from Tuas Port to workforce and urban planning institutions.

By spotlighting their shared dedication to charitable causes, Madam Sajidha and Mrs. Shanmugaratnam symbolise a deeper layer of bilateral engagement, merging statecraft with community care. This afternoon’s meeting thus contributes meaningfully to the Maldives’ pursuit of enduring partnerships and cooperative social advancement in the region.
