The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives, His Excellency Yahya Hassan Alhqahtani, officially presented his Letter of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in a ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.

In a vibrant display of Maldivian tradition, Ambassador Alhqahtani was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a “Haiykolhu” cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band, symbolizing the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
During their meeting, President Muizzu expressed heartfelt appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support to the Maldives, highlighting the strong brotherly bond championed by The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The President reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthen this longstanding partnership.
President Muizzu also thanked Saudi Arabia for including the Maldives in the Makkah Route Initiative, commending the enhanced services and continuous improvements offered to Maldivian pilgrims undertaking Hajj.
Ambassador Alhqahtani, in turn, conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s dedication to advancing bilateral cooperation. Both sides pledged to deepen the enduring relationship and explore new avenues of collaboration.
The Maldives and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on March 17, 1981, and continue to share close diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties that have grown stronger over the decades.
