Republic Square in Malé has been temporarily closed as the government embarks on extensive renovation and beautification efforts in preparation for the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day.
According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the iconic public space will remain closed from today until July 25 to allow for crucial improvement works. The ministry emphasized that these efforts aim to create a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for the national celebrations.
The Maldives will mark its 60th Independence Day on July 26, and authorities are planning a grand celebration to honor the country’s journey since gaining independence in 1965.
