By Ahmed Ashraf Published July 21, 2025

In a powerful demonstration of his administration’s commitment to island-level progress, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured the people of N. Maafaru that their development priorities will be fulfilled to the greatest extent possible under his leadership.

Speaking directly to the residents during a community meeting held Monday morning in Maafaru—part of his ongoing tour across the inhabited islands of South Miladhunmadulu Atoll—the President reaffirmed that his government is delivering on its promises with action, not just words.

Top on the President’s development agenda for Maafaru is the urgent need to upgrade healthcare facilities. He revealed that, following citizen feedback, necessary changes have been made to the previously signed agreement, and he has already instructed for the swift recommencement of work on a state-of-the-art health center tailored to community needs.

Further reinforcing his commitment to youth and future generations, President Muizzu announced that four additional classrooms will be built to enhance the island’s education infrastructure. In the same vein, he confirmed that arrangements are underway to support sports development, aligning with the administration’s holistic approach to community well-being.

As part of major infrastructure transformation plans, President Muizzu declared that physical road construction works are scheduled to begin by year-end. He also emphasized that with Maafaru’s strategic international airport, the government will ensure its development meets global standards—boosting economic potential and connectivity for the region.

In addressing one of the nation’s most critical needs—affordable housing—the President confirmed Maafaru’s inclusion in a new round of housing projects slated for launch in 2026. He pledged that pressing community issues would continue to be resolved with urgency and care.

Underscoring progress already achieved, the President formally inaugurated the island’s newly completed sewerage system—a key milestone in improving public health and sanitation.

President Muizzu’s visit to Maafaru is part of his broader national tour to engage directly with councils and citizens across all atolls and cities. Accompanied by senior government officials and cabinet ministers, the President is ensuring that the voices of the people guide the nation’s path forward.
