At UN Summit, Maldives Echoes President Muizzu’s Call for Justice and Sovereignty for Palestine

By Ahmed Ashraf Published July 29, 2025

The Maldives has once again amplified its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause on the world stage, participating in the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations Headquarters from July 28–29.

The Maldivian delegation is led by Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, who is scheduled to deliver a strong statement during the plenary session. The address will reaffirm the Maldives’ principled stance and enduring commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people and the urgent realization of a just and lasting peace.

The Maldives’ participation in this critical forum comes at a time when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been vocal on the international stage about the plight of the Palestinian people. Since taking office, President Muizzu has consistently emphasized the importance of defending Palestinian rights, calling for an end to the occupation and urging the international community to uphold its legal and moral obligations. His administration has prioritized Palestine as a key pillar of the Maldives’ foreign policy, reinforcing the country’s historic position of solidarity.

Under President Muizzu’s leadership, the Maldives has continued to advocate for the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine within pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions and international law.

The two-day conference, convened under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 79/81, is co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. It serves as a vital platform to reinvigorate global consensus on the two-state solution, especially amid intensifying international calls for peace, justice, and accountability in the occupied Palestinian territories.

A Ministerial High-Level Meeting was held prior to the plenary, where participating nations reviewed the findings of the Conference’s Working Groups and explored actionable pathways toward a peaceful resolution.

The Maldives’ active role at this pivotal forum demonstrates not only its enduring diplomatic commitment to the Palestinian cause but also President Muizzu’s resolute advocacy for global justice and principled multilateralism.
