75 Years Strong: STELCO Salutes Staff for Driving the Nation’s Energy Evolution

By The Standard Published July 19, 2025

In a landmark celebration marking 75 years since the introduction of electricity services in the Maldives, the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) held a prestigious awards ceremony to honour the dedication and service of its employees. The event, which combined the Staff Awards for both 2023 and 2024, recognised individuals whose contributions have been instrumental in sustaining and advancing the nation’s energy infrastructure.

The anniversary commemoration served not only as a reflection on the company’s historical journey—from its early days of electricity generation to becoming the backbone of national power supply—but also as a tribute to the people behind the scenes who have powered that progress.

During the ceremony, long-serving employees, high-performing teams, and outstanding contributors across departments were acknowledged for their commitment to excellence. STELCO officials highlighted the resilience, innovation, and loyalty of the workforce as vital elements in the company’s enduring legacy.

Managing Director of STELCO, senior government officials, and company leadership attended the event, offering congratulations and sharing aspirations for the company’s continued growth. In his address, STELCO’s leadership emphasized that the company’s future remains firmly grounded in the expertise and passion of its employees.

“As we celebrate 75 years of electrifying the Maldives, we are reminded that our greatest asset has always been our people,” one official remarked. “Their unwavering dedication ensures we don’t just power homes and businesses—we power lives and progress.”

The awards ceremony was part of a broader series of events planned to commemorate the company’s diamond jubilee. With new energy innovations and expansion projects on the horizon, STELCO reaffirmed its commitment to driving forward the Maldives’ energy transition while honouring the values and individuals that have brought it this far.
